Thao Mckay
Principal Lawyer/Director
Thao graduated with Honours in Law in 2011 and was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2012.
Having worked for a range of law firms, including a prominent national firm and boutique firms, Thao is passionate about the law and is committed to providing services to her clients in an efficient and empathetic manner.
As a child of divorced parents, Thao has experienced first-hand the complexities of family law issues. She is passionate about family law and assisting those going through the fraught process of separation. Thao works predominately in family law, dealing with property settlements and parenting matters. She also has substantial experience in conveyancing and wills and estates matters.
Thao became the principal of her own practice to deliver her vision of legal services for many years before joining forces with Melissa Tsui.
When not practising law, Thao is studying to become an Egyptologist at Macquarie University and enjoys eating, cheerleading, learning about astrophysics, and is the current Treasurer of the Eastern Suburbs Law Society.
Melissa Tsui
Principal Lawyer/Director
Melissa holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics (Financial Economics) from the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2011. She was admitted into practice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2013.
Melissa has broad experience in family law, with a particular focus on complex property settlements and parenting disputes. She regularly appears before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia in the Sydney Registry.
In addition to her family law practice, Melissa also works in conveyancing, and wills and estates including family provision claims.
Melissa believes in providing straight and direct advice that is both practical and commercially sound whilst achieving good results for her clients. Having extensive litigation experience, she is also sensitive to the nature of disputed matters which can cause stress on clients.
Having practised in the eastern suburbs since 2012, Melissa founded her own firm, Tsui Lawyers, in 2021. In 2025, she merged her practice with Thao McKay to form Merit Legal Group, bringing together their shared values and complementary expertise.
Melissa is the Immediate Past President of the Eastern Suburbs Law Society having served as President from 2023 to 2024.
